ASA Update Jan 10, 2019

Tomorrow morning, January 11th from 9 to 10 AM artists Arlon Gilliland and Jim Richards will be featured on “Talking About Art” a forum for artists, writers and poets with host Joel Zak on community radio KMUZ 100.7 and 88.5 FM.  This program is available to stream, download, or listen to on air.  Don’t miss it!

 

Join us at our Gallery Opening and Artists’ Reception tomorrow, January 11th from 5 to 7 PM.  “Winter Hues” is our theme.  Taft High School Culinary students will be offering treats in many shapes and delicious forms.  Bring your family and friends in support of our local students.  They have been so excited finding recipes to “wow” you!

Featured ArtistsJoAnn is looking for artists who are interested in being a Featured Artist.  There are still a couple of summer months and fall/winter months available.  Put your request through the slot in the office door in the ASA Classroom or email JoAnn at jballa1949@aol.com .  This is a great opportunity to expose your art to the visitors and members that come through the ASA as well as being featured in some of our local papers.

Artists, please remember when submitting your work for our shows that you do not use sawtooth hangers.  Thank you!

The subject for Guided Open Studio on January 10th will be “flowers” to brighten the day during our cold, wet winter.  There is never a charge although donations are appreciated.  Please bring your own supplies.

 One of our favorite artists, Arlon Gilliland, is in an art gallery in McMinnville, The Gallery at Ten Oaks, 801 SW Baker St. and will be in a two man show from January 1 to March 3.  The Opening and Artist Reception is on Saturday, January 12 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.  What a great excuse for a Saturday afternoon outing.  Join Arlon at the gallery and wish him well.  The subject for Guided Open Studio on Thursday, Dec 20th will be adding further details to the “skies” project that was started in the Open Studio on the 13th.  This will most likely be seascapes or landscapes and will be finishing the painting.  This will be the last Guided Open Studio until Arlon starts up again with new plans on January 10th, 2019.  Keep an eye on the upcoming ASA Updates to see what the subjects for future Guided Open Studios will be for 2019.

Artist Estate Sale

There will be an artist estate sale this Friday 11/30, Saturday 12/1, and Sunday 12/2 the hours on all days will be 10 am to 5 pm.  There will be various types of artist supplies for sale including frames.  The house is on West Devils Lake Rd just North of Regatta Park about 1/8 mile, turn left up the hill.  The address is 1803 NE Tide Avenue in Lincoln City

A broken piece of down spout has been fixed and the furnace filter and back parking lot cleaned by Tony Hugeback.  Thank you Tony!

Bill Cary contacted the electrician regarding the lighting problem in the ASA classroom. Repair is on the electrician’s schedule.

Teach Watercolor at Little Whale Cove Catherine Hingson Little Whale Cove is looking for watercolor instructors.   Dawn Harden is arranging for teachers at their clubhouse.  Negotiating teaching pay will be up to you, but they’re thinking it will be about 2 hours per month paying $100 for 4 months of work (8 hours total).  You would be teaching a class of about 10 people.  Great opportunity for someone who wants to practice teaching.

Christmas Party December 9th 3 to 5 pm:

Join us for our ASA Christmas Party for fun and an art related gift exchange.  Here is a chance to bring your spouse or friend and share in the fun at the ASA.  You are encouraged to bring a finger food to share.  Gifts brought in for the Gift Exchange should be art related and valued under $20.00.  We’ll be drawing numbers for the Gift Exchange so that everyone who brought in a gift will be sure to receive one.

Gallery Hosts Needed:

Here is a chance to come to the ASA and work on one of your projects while letting visitors know about the ASA.  The sign-up calendar is in the ASA kitchen by the refrigerator.  We need hosts on those weekend days or holidays when no classes are in session.  Hours are up to you but are usually 10 to 1 pm (or so).  Bring a friend with you if you like, and work on one of your art projects while chatting with visitors to our gallery and encouraging them to vote for our People’s Choice Award.

ASA Update Nov 14, 2018

NOTES:

The subject for Guided Open Studio on Thursday, November 15th from 1 to 4 pm is teddy bears or furry stuffed animals.  Please note that everyone should be bringing their own supplies to Open Studios.  Bring your watercolors, acrylics, or whatever your favorite medium happens to be.  See you there!

Our Beachstone Gallery Holiday tree will be trimmed this Friday, the 16th.  Please bring in your beautiful tree decorations this week.

Inside the Art Intake room, you will find a decorated bin to place your ornaments in. Be sure to add a small price tag with your info on each, for easy recordkeeping. Some tags are there, if they run out, check the “display tag” drawer.

Reminder:

November 17 & 18 is our holiday sales days  . We may still have a half table space available. Set up your table 10 a.m. Saturday morning. Tear down Sunday afternoon at 4ish.
